Former Disney Star Matt Prokop Arrested on Multiple Charges

Former child actor Matt Prokop, 35, has been arrested on multiple charges, including possession of child pornography, PEOPLE can confirm.

Prokop was taken into custody on December 24 in Victoria County, Texas, according to an employee at the Victoria County Jail. TMZ first reported the arrest.

He faces one second-degree felony charge of possession of child pornography, along with four misdemeanor charges: one for violation of bond — protective order, one for evading arrest or detention, and two for resisting arrest, search, or transportation. He is currently being held at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail, and it is unclear when he will appear in court.

This arrest comes years after abuse allegations from his ex-girlfriend, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland. In court filings, Hyland accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship, including an incident in May 2014 in which he allegedly slammed her into a vehicle and choked her.

In August 2014, Hyland said her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen intervened, helping her end the relationship. According to the restraining order Hyland later obtained, Prokop then allegedly threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house. Hyland secured a restraining order against him the following month.

Reflecting on the relationship in October 2024, Hyland told Variety, “I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that. It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit. It’s more so putting love towards that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it.”
